Pizza Program
Western Connecticut State University is often host to a wide variety of on-campus events on both the Midtown and Westside campuses alike. Not only is it easy to find a good club to involve yourself in or an interesting lecture to attend, but if you are lucky enough to live in one of the on-campus residence halls, you will be welcomed by RA’s and students alike at many weekly residence hall events. These events often consist of fun, interactive topics that are designed to engage the student body in social betterment.
One such event that took place this week was “A Slice of Life” hosted by RA Lyndsey Rizk of WCSU’s Centennial Hall and the Counseling Center. The event took place Thursday, March 5th at 7PM in the Centennial Hall Main Lounge. It was held to foster healthy and safe relationships so that students may benefit from the discussion and apply the information in our everyday lives and improve the community in residence halls.
RA Rizk explains, “This event is a social event that allows residents to mingle in a safe space and benefit from the knowledge of the Counseling Center regarding safe relationships.” A handsome flyer provided by Rizk advertised that free pizza was offered at the event, an even further incentive to attend an already interesting event.
A Slice of Life is funded by the Counseling Center but is voted on by the residents. This means that the students pay for events like these through required student dues and are then given the freedom to choose where the money they pay goes. If students did not feel strongly that a discussion on safe relationships could benefit the
residence hall as a whole, the vote for this event would not have passed.
RA Rizk hopes that the people who attended this event will take some knowledge away from it and use it in their everyday lives. Rizk stated that the Counseling Center hope to aid the student body in the way of event discussions. The Counseling Center also kept a representative around after the event ended to “answer any questions anyone may have or to address anyone’s private issues.”
